FLOATING CINEMA FINALE: FREE OUTDOOR SCREENING of THE
CLOSER WE GET
Thurs. Aug 20th @ Three Mills, Bow, London E3 3DU
We'd like to warmly invite you to a fabulous summer evening celebrating both 5 years of the Floating Cinema and 20 years of Somewhere.
Yes it really is 20 years since our first exhibition Somewhere Over The TV at the
Collective Gallery in Edinburgh!
We have made many films and projects together since then and the latest one Repeat to Flourish has gone online last week - an archive commission created for The Floating Cinema this summer as it travelled from Brentford to Bristol and back again.
So to celebrate we'd like to invite you to join us for an exclusive al fresco free screening of The Closer We Get - Somewhere's fourth feature film - which as most of you will know is about Karen's own family - an incredible autobiographical tale of loyalty, broken dreams and redemption spanning decades and continents. We're delighted that the film was recently awarded one of the documentary world's highest accolades - Best International Feature - at Canada's Hot Docs - and we're really looking forward to sharing it with many of our friends here.
"A beautifully rendered and ultimately heart-breaking
reminder that there is no such thing as an ordinary life"
Alison Rowat, The Herald ****
You can watch the Trailer, read reviews and see more about the film here at: www.thecloserweget.com
We'll be there to introduce the film - on an evening that marks 20 years of working together as Somewhere and the end of five very happy years collaborating with UP projects on The Floating Cinema. Feel free to come early & bring along your own picnic, drinks, dogs (on leads) and friends for this special event - we hope to raise a glass with some of you as we wait for it to grow dark!
The event is very near to another, much loved, Somewhere project Abbey Gardens - so you can even double up and go to the garden club before you come to Three Mills - www.abbeygardens.org
Though the event is free, tickets are limited so please reserve yours here!
Very best wishes,
Nina & Karen
