Limo Day

2000
Project:

Video / live event interviewing 'local celebrities' as they travel in a stretch limo across the iconic English Lake District

Limo Day is one of three projects (with the Festival of Lying & David Shuttleworth - Rally Hopeful) that emerged from a Grizedale Arts residency in 1999 / 2000 with artists Simon Poulter and Anna Best.
We hired a stretch limo for a day from Penrith (a nearby town) and brought it to the Lake District National Park. By word of mouth, we selected and invited 'local celebrities' to travel in it and be interviewed by us about their lives in the Lake District. These included estate agent Ralph Spours, a local Santa Claus, and rally driver David Shuttleworth.
For Grizedale Arts' show Lawless, the audience watched the video documentation of Limo Day in the limo itself whilst travelling (slowly). The video was also exhibited with other work from this residency in 'People from Off' at the Collective Gallery (Edinburgh, UK) in 2001.
